For the Caramelized Banana Layer
Dry Ingredients
Wet Ingredients
Preheat oven to 350F. Lightly grease the sides of a 9x13 baking pan
To make the caramelized banana layer cut the bananas lengthwise. Layer them in the pan (you can also cut dials but they looked a little more messy when it came time to cut the banana bread so it's up to you)
In a small saucepan heat the sugar, maple syrup, butter, salt and cinnamon until completely combined, smooth and just starts to bubble. Pour the mixture over the bananas
In a large mixing bowl add all the dry ingredients and whisk until evenly combined
In a separate bowl mix all the wet ingredients
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and mix well. This will be a thick batter
If you're adding chocolate chips pour them in now and fold the batter
Pour the batter into the pan and gently spread it out to fill the pan all the way to the corners as evenly as possible
Bake for 40-45 minutes until a toothpick comes out of the center of the banana bread clean
